From a gemmological perspective, Peridot is the precious, transparent variety of the mineral olivine.
Its colour range extends from a bright yellow-green to dark olive green and vivid grass green.
Peridot is one of the few gemstones that usually remain completely untreated.
Its characteristic green color is idiochromatic (caused by iron within its own chemical structure) and practically cannot be altered or deepened by treatments such as irradiation or heat.
Finest qualities come from Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam.
Peridot is the birthstone for August and the 15th wedding anniversary gemstone.
